Education & Outreach
We live in age of information overload where people can quickly find and collect information on nearly any topic. I am dedicated to helping students and communities interested in environmental stewardship to think critically about the information, apply it effectively and communicate it simply.

Natural Resources Conservation Academy

Prompted by an offer from an anonymous donor, I became part of the team to develop the idea for the Natural Resources Conservation Academy – a residential summer program for high school students of diverse backgrounds to experience and explore careers in soil, water, forest, and wildlife management. I have served as a mentor during the one-week residential field experiences and then follow-up with the students and their community partners to help them design, complete, and present a service-learning project. I have acted as a community partner for a number of students interested in forest ecology and invasive species related projects.

#MapMondays

During COVID, I launched a video series to connect people to wildlife stories and the ways in which maps are making an impact on wildlife conservation.
Practitioner Resources:
Mapping for Equitable Conservation
Maps potentially have important implications for where and how we take action and present an opportunity for ensuring that limited conservation resources are dedicated to places that optimize biodiversity conservation, climate change mitigation/adaptation, and advanced human well-being, particularly for historically marginalized communities. I led a working group in developing a guide to help map developers/users working at all scales to select and develop maps that support better decision-making at the intersection of biodiversity and equity.
